Armed with scissors and safety pins, Rachel created her first fashions at age six...dreaming one day she'd find herself in the glamorous world of fashion. Never afraid to take a chance in fashion, her personal style ranges from classic to trendy with a stop everywhere in between. She pondered: Why should being pregnant change any of that?

Reared in an active family where her mom juggled children's activities with the demands of running family-owned businesses, Cristina was often at her mother's side and has never questioned her destiny to have it all. Driven by a desire to create a company of her own that would make a contribution to savvy young mothers everywhere, she blends her keen, business acumen with an innate sense of style and has teamed with her fashion-wise partner Rachel to begin a great adventure?

Together these California girls combine their individual styles resulting in a super fashionable, easily wearable collection necessary for every modern mom-to-be. Maternity and fashion meet here.
 

Japanese Weekend Maternity

Japanese Weekend Maternity owner/designer Barbie White majored in dance at the University of Oregon. After moving to San Francisco in the mid-seventies, she founded Oblong Rhonda, an urban modern dance company. Japanese Weekend was named after a dance performance choreographed by Barbie in the late seventies. White's experience with dance has aided her ability to design for the moving, changing body.

Japanese Weekend Maternity designs have changed the way mothers-to-be look at maternity wear. Gone are the days of sloppy upsizing and non-functional clothing. Gone are the big bows and Peter Pan collars of "traditional" maternity wear. Japanese Weekend Maternity offers contemporary, functional and comfortable clothing, made with quality fabrics and solid construction. Because of White's care and fashion-forward designs, a modern day woman can feel assured that she looks good while being comfortable from the early months of pregnancy throughout her nursing days.

Japanese Weekend Maternity is at the forefront of the maternity clothing revolution. The company has patented several designs that are innovative and fashionable, which include the OkTM Support Waistband, The hugTM Line, and the one-of-a kind MamaCoatTM.

 

Olian Maternity

As the company has grown up around her, Barbie White is constantly looking for ways to make pregnancy and early motherhood days a wonderful experience. "This is a time in a woman's life when she wants to look as beautiful on the outside as she is feeling on the inside," White explains. "And as she's feeling good on the outside, she will feel even better on the inside. I'm happy Japanese Weekend Maternity can make it all work together."

In the late 1980s, the maternity industry while being well supplied by numerous clothing manufactures, often produced garments that in many cases looked like the afterthought of a regular-fit garment or that were jokingly referred to as "tents." In fact, more often than not, these garments did not fit well and did not accommodate the fashion conscious mother-to-be.

These manufactures of the late 1980s just wanted to satisfy the generic demands of the market, with limited awareness or irreverence towards the ultimate consumer. The only way to obtain a beautiful maternity dress was to pay an excessive price at an exclusive shop for a dress that had a limited use after the pregnancy. There was very little value to the consumer.

Almost by coincidence, this unimaginative but opportune environment was luckily identified by Olian. As it turns out, one of its founders was pregnant with her first newborn and could not find any clothing that would fit her comfortably while being beautiful and affordable. Olian which at the time was focusing on the higher-end fashion market, decided to redefined its mission and address the real needs of the expecting mothers – that wants value for her hard earned dollar and fashion consciousness to go along with it!

In 1990, Olian opened its doors to the maternity industry with the unwavering goal of proving value in the products it offered by combining the expectations of: (1) an excellent fit, (2) a fashion conscious trend, (3) a wide assortment of colors, prints and styles, and (4) affordability. These goals together with a friendly customer service environment, have allowed Olian to experience significant national growth in the last decade.

Maternity Bride

Maternity Bride began in 2004 as the first and only bridal company to specialize exclusively in designing wedding dresses for pregnant women.

I too was a pregnant bride desperately searching for a maternity wedding dress which met my needs for style, quality, and fit.

I never found one for my own wedding day, but was consequently inspired to begin Maternity Bride, and raise the bar in maternity bridal.

Maternity Bride is my effort to make your experience of being a pregnant bride in search of a maternity wedding gown enjoyable for the first time in history!

Buying a maternity wedding gown should be a personal experience. I design each maternity wedding dress to fit through your entire course of pregnancy. Only the finest fabrics are chosen, and the prices are kept affordable, as I know the stress that can result from the expense of a wedding and a new baby all at the same time.
